Removing
Raise the car, see section «Vehicle lifting».
Nut yoke type «terminal» spray rust remover between the middle and following mufflers. Leave the product for a while to show its effect.
Loosen the clamp, pull the subsequent muffler forward from the rubber support. If there is not enough space, unscrew the rubber bracket from the console.
Turning the subsequent muffler in different directions, disconnect it from the middle muffler.
If the downstream muffler is not removed, various techniques can be used to release it. Saw through the exhaust pipe approx. 10 cm behind the clamp. Then file the rest of the pipe along and cut it out with a hammer and chisel. If there is a welding torch, heat up the corresponding zone.
Caution: Protect underbody with asbestos. Make sure that neither the fuel lines nor the fuel tank (plastic) did not heat up.
Installation
Check the condition of the coupling bolt and nut, as well as the rubber bracket, if necessary, replace the parts.
Insert the new downstream muffler into the rubber bracket from the front.
Put on the clamp and dock the exhaust pipes. Make sure that the dimension -a- = 5 mm is maintained, see above.
Attention: To facilitate subsequent removal, lubricate the thread of the coupling bolt and the crimped ends of the pipes with high-temperature paste.
Align the downstream muffler while ensuring sufficient clearance to the underbody. On models with 16-valve engines, the rear suspension of the subsequent muffler must protrude 10 mm from the rubber bracket, see drawing 26-588.
Tighten clamp type «terminal».
Lower the car, see section «Vehicle lifting».
