Exhaust gas toxicity control

Since 1/12/93 in Germany, regular monitoring of exhaust gas toxicity has been introduced for vehicles equipped with variable catalysts, as well as diesel engines. The control must be carried out by authorized workshops. In particular, the following control intervals have been established.

• Vehicles without catalytic converter or with non-adjustable catalytic converter: every 12 months after the last inspection.
• Vehicles with variable catalytic converter or diesel engine: every 24 months after the last inspection. The start for the first inspection is the first term for technical inspection after 1/12/93.

VW electronic instruments are required for the test, which must be carried out in accordance with the established standard. The instructions given here for checking and adjusting the CO content do not meet the requirements for monitoring the toxicity of exhaust gases.
