General information about the injection system

The advantages of gasoline injection systems compared to a carburetor are as follows:

• Precisely metered amount of fuel in each load mode, resulting in low fuel consumption and a good power balance.
• Reduction of harmful pollutants in exhaust gases due to precise fuel dosing.
• The possibility of cleaning exhaust gases in a catalyst controlled by oxygen sensor signals.
• Self-diagnosis of the injection system control unit, which allows you to quickly detect defects. The petrol engines in the VW PASSAT, depending on the power, are equipped with three different, significantly different injection systems from BOSCH or VW.

All injection systems work stably for a long time and require little to no maintenance. The exception is the air filter, the replaceable element of which must be replaced every 30,000 km, and for cars manufactured from 9/88, after 60,000 km.
