Only with mechanical clutch drive
Removing
Depress the clutch pedal several times until it stops.
Press the clutch release lever on the gearbox by hand in the direction away from the drive. Due to this, the automatic adjustment mechanism is compressed. Remove cable from clutch release lever.
Attention: If the lever is not pressed in the indicated direction, then there is a defect in the adjusting mechanism. In this case, bite the cable with side cutters and remove the nipple from the mount.
Disconnect the cable from the clutch pedal in the car, see figure 30-322 above.
Press the rubber buffer out of its mounting on the gearbox and remove the cable from the retaining clip next to the brake fluid reservoir. Pull the clutch cable from the side of the engine compartment from the front wall of the cab.
Installation
The clutch cable must always be replaced complete with the adjusting mechanism. For new rods, the adjusting mechanism is compressed with a clamp.
Attention: If the old cable is installed again, the adjusting mechanism must be compressed. To do this, hang the cable on the clutch pedal and drive lever. Move the cable sheath several times as far as it will go in different directions until the adjusting mechanism is compressed. In this position, the adjusting mechanism is firmly held or fixed with a clamp.
Attach cable to clutch release lever.
Insert the rubber buffer into the cable guide on the gearbox.
Route the cable through the cab front wall and connect to the clutch pedal. Don't forget to install the insert, lock washer and o-ring, see above.
Insert the cable into the guide at the retaining bracket.
Attention: Make sure that the clutch cable does not touch the shift cable, bend the holder if necessary.
Remove the clamp from the adjusting mechanism and check the clutch drive.
Examination
Press the clutch pedal to the stop at least five times.
Pull the actuating lever on the gearbox in the direction opposite to the cable by approx. 10 mm. However, it must move freely. If this is not the case, then there is a defect in the adjusting mechanism, replace the cable rod.
Attention: Do not open the housing of the automatic adjusting mechanism, as the adjusting mechanism can no longer be compressed.
