Replacement of brake pads
Brake pads must only be replaced in pairs simultaneously on both wheels with pads of the specified brand.
Raise the rear of the car, put it on stands and remove the wheels. Carry out the following operations on both sides of the vehicle. Set the parking brake lever to its lowest position. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the holder on the rear suspension arm. Loosen the two caliper mounting bolts and remove the caliper (pic. 7-16). Remove brake pads. Clean the pad seats in the caliper and move the piston as far as possible into the cylinder, if necessary removing some of the brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir. Check the condition of the brake disc and brake dust cap.
Install new brake pads. Screw in new caliper mounting bolts and tighten to 2.5 kgf·m. Connect the parking brake cable and adjust its tension as shown below. Install the rear wheels and lower the car. Press the brake pedal several times to set the piston to the working position. Check and, if necessary, restore the fluid level in the tank.
Removal and installation of the brake mechanism
Raise the rear of the car, put it on stands and remove the wheels. Use a syringe to remove fluid from the master cylinder reservoir. Disconnect the brake hose from the caliper and plug its hole. Disconnect the parking brake cable. Loosen the two bolts securing the shoe guide to the wheel hub. Remove the shoe guide assembly with caliper and brake shoes. Rinse the parts with alcohol, dry and check their condition. Reinstall the shoe guide assembly with caliper and shoes. Screw in the bolts for fastening the guide pads and tighten them to a torque of 6.5 kgf·m. Attach the brake hose.
Pour brake fluid into the master cylinder reservoir. Install wheels and lower vehicle. Bleed the air from the hydraulic brake actuator as follows.
Dismantling and assembly of the brake mechanism
Remove the brake mechanism as above. Clamp the brake mechanism in a vise with pads of soft material. Remove the piston dust cap. Remove the piston from the cylinder by unscrewing it. Remove the O-ring from the cylinder with a screwdriver.
Rinse thoroughly with denatured alcohol. Carefully check the condition of the parts.
If scratches or signs of wear are found on the surface of the piston or cylinder, replace the entire caliper.
Assemble the brake mechanism, replacing all sealing parts and lubricating the parts with brake fluid. Install the brake mechanism as above. Remove air from hydraulic brakes. as below.
Removal and installation of a brake disk
Brake discs should only be replaced in pairs.
Raise the rear of the car, put it on stands and remove the wheels. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the holder on the rear suspension arm. Unscrew the two bolts securing the guide pads to the wheel hub and remove the brake mechanism without disconnecting the brake hose. Remove brake pads. Hang the brake mechanism with a hook, taking care not to damage the brake hose.
Mark the position of the brake disc in relation to the wheel hub. Remove hub cap. Remove the cotter pin and toothed stopper of the hub nut. Loosen the hub nut and remove the washer. Remove the wheel bearing inner race. Remove the brake disc, made integral with the hub.
The installation of the brake disc is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- before installing the brake disc, lay universal grease in the hub;
- replace the hub nut cotter pin with a new one and adjust the clearance in the hub bearings as indicated in the section «Rear suspension»;
- press the brake pedal several times to set the brake piston to the working position.
