- «R» - parking;
- «R» - reverse;
- «N» — neutral;
- «D» — automatic switching of all forward gears;
- «3» - automatic switching of I, II and III gears;
- «2» - automatic switching of I and II gears;
- «1» — the inclusion of only 1st gear.
On the center console of the passenger compartment there is a switch for gearshift programs with positions «E» (economical driving) And «B» (sports riding). When you turn on the program «S» gear shifting occurs at a higher engine speed, resulting in faster vehicle acceleration. Switching programs can be done both during a stop and when the car is moving.
Gearbox types and applicability are shown in Table 4-5.
Since October 1992, a reinforced tapered roller bearing has been installed on vehicles manufactured since October 1992. The design of the final drive gear, gearbox housing, bolts, bearing cover, support ring, final drive pinion oil seal, inner and outer races of the tapered roller bearing has also been changed. On cars produced since September 1995, the gearbox oil temperature sensor is included in the electronic control system of the hydromechanical gearbox.
Gearboxes of the old and modified design differ in threaded holes for the bolts of the tapered roller bearing housing: since October 1992, M8 holes are made for the bolts of the reinforced roller bearing housing instead of M6.
Details of an automatic transmission are resulted on fig. 4-75.

Gearbox ratios are shown in Table 4-6.
Since November 1992, hydromechanical gearboxes have been installed on cars with modified gear ratios and a modified gearshift program, indicated by indices «CFF», «CFH», «CFK» and «CHG». They do not have a program switch E122, the functions of which are performed by the control unit J217 (microcomputer).
The design of clutches E1 and E3 and parts of the planetary gear have also been changed. The parts of the modified and the old design are not interchangeable.
