Deciphering the symbols printed on the battery label
- 1 - When servicing the battery, it is necessary to follow the safety regulations set out in the instruction manual.
- 2 - The battery contains corrosive acid and care must be taken not to spill the acid from the battery.
- 3 - Do not use open flame near the battery.
- 4 - Wear safety goggles when working with the battery.
- 5 - Keep the battery out of the reach of children.
- 6 - When disposing of the battery, take it only to designated points.
- 7 - Do not dispose of the battery with household waste.
- 8 - Gases released during battery charging are explosive.

The battery is installed in the rear of the engine compartment at the base of the windshield.
Warning: When the battery terminals are disconnected, data on the recorded faults are erased in the memory blocks of the control devices, therefore, before disconnecting the battery terminals, it is advisable to contact a specialized workshop to recall the faults recorded in the memory. After connecting the battery terminal, it is necessary to activate and reprogram the power windows, as well as the position of the rear-view mirrors and seats.
Warning: Also, if the car has a radio with a code, then before disconnecting the terminals from the battery, check that you have the code to reactivate the receiver. Otherwise, it will be possible to put the radio receiver into operation only at a specialized Volkswagen station.
When installing a new battery, it is necessary to use only a battery with the removal of gases formed during battery operation, see fig. Connecting a hose to remove gases from the battery generated during its operation.
Removing
1. Switch off the ignition.
2. Open the hood.
3. Remove the negative terminal from the battery and move it to the side.
4. Remove the protective cover, loosen the fastener and remove the positive terminal from the battery.
5. Unscrew the bolt at the bottom of the battery and remove the battery mounting plate.
6. Move the battery to the side, this will release the fastening of the second side of the battery, and remove the battery from the engine compartment.

Installation
Warning: When installing the battery, do not pinch the hose designed to remove gases released during battery operation. There is a valve in the vent pipe that protects the battery from backfire.
1. Install one side of the battery on the support bracket, see fig. Battery fasteners.
2. Fasten the battery on the second side and screw it on with a bolt, tightening it with a torque of 20 Nm.
3. Check that the battery is securely fastened, as otherwise the battery life may be significantly reduced.
4. Connect the positive terminal to the battery first, and then the negative terminal and secure them by tightening the fastening nuts to a torque of 5 Nm.
5. If the car has a coded radio, reprogram it.
6. Set the time on the clock.
7. Activate the power windows.
7a. Lock the vehicle from the outside through the driver's door or the front passenger's door. Check that windows and doors are securely closed.
7b. Re-lock the vehicle with the key while holding the key in the locked position for at least one second.
Warning: If there is a defect in the power windows, then the illumination of the control buttons on the door will flash.
8. Activate the memory function for the positions of the outside rear-view mirrors and seats.
8a. Open the driver's door.
8b. Turn on the ignition.
8c. Use the control buttons to move the driver's seat forward and up as far as it will go.
8y. Tilt the backrest of the driver's seat all the way forward using the control buttons.
8d. Switch off the ignition.
