- 1 - tachometer,
- 2 - coolant temperature gauge,
- 3 - fuel gauge,
- 4 - speedometer,
- 5 - electronic clock with digital indication or trip computer display,
- 6 - selector position indication field,
- 7 - trip counter with service indicator
The location of the control devices depends on the specific car model and engine type.
1 - Tachometer
In no case should the tachometer needle enter the red zone of the scale.
Shifting up earlier saves fuel and reduces engine and transmission noise!
Switch to a lower gear as late as possible, shortly before the moment when jerks appear in the engine.
During the break-in period, avoid running the engine at high engine speeds.
2 - Coolant temperature
The pointer works when the ignition is on.
When the ignition is switched on, the warning lamp flashes for several seconds during a function check (With).
A - Low temperature zone
Avoid high engine speeds and do not overstress the engine!
B - Normal operating temperature zone
With normal vehicle movement, the arrow should be in the middle zone of the scale.
With a heavy load on the engine and a high outside temperature, it is possible from time to time that the arrow enters the upper zone of the scale.
This should not cause an alarm until the warning light starts flashing (With).
C - Warning lamp
If the warning lamp starts flashing while driving, the first thing to do is to see what temperature the coolant temperature gauge shows.
If the arrow is in the zone of normal operating temperature, coolant should be added to the cooling system as soon as possible.
If the arrow is in the right zone of the scale, then this means that the temperature of the coolant is too high. You should stop the car, turn off the engine and determine the cause of the increase in coolant temperature.
3 - Fuel gauge
The pointer works when the ignition is on.
The vehicle's fuel tank capacity is approximately 62 liters.
If the indicator has reached the red fuel reserve zone and at the same time the warning lamp d lights up, this means that there are still about 7 liters of fuel left.
4 - Speedometer
5 - Electronic clock with digital display
Turn the button to set the current time. This button is located on the lower right near the tachometer.
Turn the button counterclockwise until it stops to set the clock. Turning the button once briefly advances the clock by one hour. Turning the button and holding it in this position continuously changes the clock.
Turn the button clockwise to the stop to set the minutes. Turning the button once for a short time causes a one-minute shift. When the button is turned and held in this position, the minutes are continuously rearranged.
With this button you can set the clock with second precision:
- turn the button to the right until the clock shows the time one minute less than the control clock;
- turn the button momentarily to the right when the second hand of the control clock reaches the full minute with an accurate course.
5 - Analog clock with hand indication
Hours with pointer indication are located at the bottom of the tachometer.
By pulling out the setting button, the current time is set. The button is located at the bottom right near the tachometer.
When the button is pulled out for a short time, the hand moves gradually in minutes.
If the button is pulled out and held in this position, the hands move slowly at first, and then the speed of their movement increases.
5 - Trip computer display
trip computer display (multifunction pointer MFA) along with the indication of the current time gives a lot of additional information:
- outside air temperature;
- instantaneous fuel consumption;
- average fuel consumption;
- distance traveled;
- average speed of movement;
- travel time.
The icon of the currently displayed parameter appears, except for the current time, at the top of the display field.
Alternately displaying additional information on the display is carried out with the ignition on by briefly pressing the balance key B located on the wiper control handle.
If you press the upper face of the key, the indications of various values will change one after another.
If you press the bottom side of the key, the indications of various values will change one after the other in reverse order.
Drives
The trip computer is equipped with two automatic drives:
Drive for storing information on individual trips (MFA 1) accumulates in itself from the moment the ignition is turned on until the moment it is turned off, the following data on the trip: driving time, distance traveled and the amount of fuel consumed.
Based on these data, the average speed, instantaneous and average specific fuel consumption are calculated.
If within two hours of switching off the ignition, the movement of the car was resumed, the new data is added to the previous ones and taken into account in the calculation of the average values. If there is a break in the movement of the car for more than two hours, all data in the drive is automatically erased.
Drive for storing information on the total mileage (MFA 2) of the car accumulates in itself all the data for any number of trips up to the achievement of the total indicators of the value of 100 hours of car movement, 10,000 km of run and 1000 liters of fuel consumed. The accumulated data are used to calculate the average values of specific fuel consumption and speed obtained from all trips.
When the limit of one of the named values is exceeded, the data in the drive on the total mileage are erased and the countdown starts again. This drive, unlike the drive for individual trips, does not erase data after two hours of a break in the movement of the car.
To query the data, access the respective memory by pressing button A on the wiper stalk.
In the field of clock indications with digital indication, the corresponding indicator of the selected drive appears:
- MFA 1 - (drive for storing information on individual trips),
- MFA 2 - (drive for storing information on the total mileage).
The following indicators can be called up from the drives:
- average specific fuel consumption;
- distance traveled;
- average speed of movement;
- movement time.
Erasing data on drives
If you hold down the A key for more than two seconds, the data in the selected drive is erased.
When the battery is disconnected, the data contained in both drives is erased.
Indications
When the ignition is switched on, indication texts appear on the display "MFA 1" or "MFA 2" depending on which drive was previously selected.
No icon - current time.
The current time also disappears when the ignition is turned off.
Setting the current time is carried out by turning the setting button near the tachometer on the instrument panel combination.
Outside temperature°С
Indication range from -40°С to +58°С. When the vehicle is stationary or driving at very low speeds, the displayed outside temperature may be slightly higher than the true value due to the influence of engine heat radiation.
On vehicles equipped with air conditioning "Climatronic" The outside temperature is shown on the display of this unit, so you don't have to ask the multi-function pointer for the outside temperature.
After switching off the ignition, the last reading of the outside air temperature remains in the storage tank for about 3 hours. If the ignition is switched on after this time has elapsed, or if the vehicle has been driven for 3 hours at a speed of about 20 km/h before this time has elapsed, the display will show the updated value of the outside temperature.
Warning: When you draw a conclusion about the possibility of icing on the road by the value of the outside air temperature, keep in mind that even at temperatures above zero degrees, there may be ice on the road.
Instantaneous specific fuel consumption 1/100 km
The current fuel consumption is shown in liters per 100 kilometers. Calculation of instantaneous fuel consumption is made after 30 meters of run. When the vehicle is stationary, the last reading of the instantaneous fuel consumption is saved.
If the instantaneous fuel consumption indicator is selected after starting the engine, the average fuel consumption value will be displayed for the first 30–40 meters of movement.
With instantaneous fuel consumption readings, you can adjust your driving style to your desired fuel consumption.
Average specific fuel consumption
The average value of the specific fuel consumption is displayed, not the current fuel consumption value.
This indicator starts to appear immediately after covering the thirty-meter distance from the moment when the data in the corresponding drive was erased. Prior to that, instead of numbers on the display, strokes. While driving, the indicator displayed is updated every five seconds.
With the drive selected for storing information on individual trips (MFA 1) The display shows the average specific fuel consumption for the current trip.
With a drive for storing information on the total mileage (MFA 2) the display shows the average specific fuel consumption for all recent trips.
The amount of fuel used is not shown.
Distance traveled km
With the MFA 1 drive selected, the display shows the mileage since the ignition was switched on or the drive was cleaned.
With the MFA 2 drive selected, the display shows the mileage for all individual trips.
The maximum value that can be shown is 9999 km. If the mileage exceeds this value, the countdown starts from zero
Average speed km/h Everything stated in paragraph "Average fuel consumption", is also valid for the point "Average moving speed".
Travel time
Everything stated in paragraph "Distance traveled", is also valid for the indicator "Travel time".
The maximum possible reading is 99 hours and 59 minutes. When this value is exceeded again, the countdown starts from zero.
6 – Field of indication of a position of the selector of an automatic transmission
The position in which the automatic transmission selector is located is shown here.
7 - Distance meter / trip odometer
The upper counter shows the total mileage of the car, the lower one shows the mileage since a certain moment (trip meter).
The last digit of the readings of the lower counter means hundred-meter segments.
Zeroing the lower counter is done by pressing the button under the speedometer.
7 - Service indicator
When is the due date for the next maintenance on the lower counter? (trip meter) speedometer one of the following designations of the required type of maintenance:
- oil change service OEL or service Oil;
- inspection service service INSP.
Approximately one minute after the engine is started, the indication for maintenance required disappears. You can also turn on the daily mileage display by pressing and holding the daily meter setting button for more than 0.5 seconds.
The Volkswagen service company that performs maintenance after work sets the service indicator to its original position.
If the service was not carried out at a Volkswagen service company, the service indicator should be reset in the following order:
- with the ignition off, press and hold down the reset button under the speedometer;
- turn on the ignition and release the reset button only when dashes appear on the display - one of the images of the required type of maintenance;
- turn the minute button for setting the clock with digital display to the right (for watches with pointer indication, pull out the button). The following will appear on the display "service - ";
- turn off the ignition. Only now the initial setting has been made to indicate the need for maintenance.
In any case, only the required type of maintenance should be set. Otherwise, the required maintenance time will be indicated incorrectly. By pressing the setting button, you can select a particular type of service.
Zeroing should not be carried out between two maintenances - the instrument will give false readings.
When the battery is disconnected, the service mileage readings are retained.
If the speedometer is replaced after repair, the service indicator must be reprogrammed. This operation must be carried out by a Volkswagen workshop. If the service indicator is not reprogrammed, it is necessary to carry out maintenance work on the vehicle according to "service book", not by the service indicator.
