The instrument cluster has a display that shows which position the selector is in.
Warning: Never, while moving, move the selector to the position "R" or "R". The gearbox may fail.
R – Parking lock.
Drive wheels are mechanically blocked.
The selector should be moved to this position only when the car is completely stopped. Before turning on and off the position "R" it is necessary to press the lock button on the selector handle. Before turning off this position with the ignition on, additionally press the brake pedal.
R - Reverse.
The reverse position should only be engaged when the vehicle is at a complete stop and the engine is idling. Before moving into position "R" from positions "R" or "N" it is necessary to press the brake pedal and press the lock button in the selector handle.
In position "R" when the ignition is on, the reversing lights are on.
N – Neutral position (idle position).
When removing the selector from position "N" at speeds up to 5 km/h, as well as when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition is on, press the brake pedal and press the lock button on the selector lever. However, it is not necessary to press the lock button when out of position "N" selector is translated to positions "D".
D - Prolonged forward movement.
Five gears switch from low to higher and vice versa automatically depending on the load on the engine and on the speed of movement.
Under certain driving conditions, it is advisable to temporarily use one of the positions below.
4 – Position for "hilly" sections of the road.
This position of the selector is recommended when, under certain driving conditions, with the selector in position "D" there is a frequent shift from 4th to 5th gear and vice versa.
To move the selector to this position, press the lock button in the selector handle. Automatically shifts up and down 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears depending on engine load and speed. 5th gear blocked. This also increases the braking effect of the engine in the event of a fuel cut.
3 – Position for mountainous sections of the road.
This position is recommended for long climbs and descents. Automatically shifts up and down 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears depending on engine load and speed. 4th and 5th gears remain locked to avoid unnecessary upshifts. This also increases the efficiency of engine braking.
2 – Position for mountainous sections of the road with large slopes.
Selecting this position is recommended when driving on steep hills and descents. When you turn on this position, you must press the lock button on the selector handle. The car only moves in 1st or 2nd gear. 3rd, 4th and 5th gears are locked to avoid unnecessary upshifts. This achieves the maximum possible engine braking effect.
Cruise control in position "2" selector cannot be used.
When manually switching in descending order, you can switch to positions "4", 3" And "2" downshifting automatically takes place only if the maximum permissible engine speed is not exceeded after the changeover.
Forced early downshift device ("kickdown")
This device provides the maximum acceleration of the car according to the given driving conditions. As soon as the pressure on the accelerator pedal exceeds a certain threshold value, depending on the engine speed and road speed, a shift to one of the lower gears takes place. The reverse shift to the next higher gear will follow only when the maximum permissible value of the crankshaft speed is reached.
Warning: Be aware that on slippery roads, the drive wheels may begin to spin when forced to downshift ahead of time.
Recommendations for choosing positions
Engine start
The engine can only be started when the control selector is in positions "N" or "R".
Choosing a position for movement
Before transferring the selector to one of the positions when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is running, always press the brake pedal.
When selecting a position when the vehicle is stationary, do not press the accelerator pedal.
If, while the vehicle is moving, the selector is accidentally set to the position "N", it is necessary to remove the foot from the accelerator pedal and wait for the engine to idle before moving the lever to any forward position.
Warning: When the engine is running, it is necessary to hold the car with the foot brake when the selector is in any of the driving positions, since even when the engine is idling, the transmission of torque to the wheels is not completely interrupted - the car "crawling".
Warning: If one of the driving positions is selected while the vehicle is stationary, under no circumstances must the accelerator pedal be pressed uncontrollably (including increasing the fuel supply by hand from the engine compartment). The car will immediately start moving - and this can happen under certain circumstances even when the parking brake is applied.
Warning: Before doing anything with the engine running, set the selector to the position "R" and apply the parking brake.
Starting off
Choose one of the movement positions (R, D, 4, 3, 2). Wait until the gear is engaged in the gearbox and the power flow reaches the drive wheels (it feels like a slight jerk) Only then press the accelerator pedal.
Stop
At a short stop, for example, before a traffic light, there is no need to change to a position "N". It is enough to hold the car with the brakes. The engine, however, should only run at idle.
Parking
On a sloping road, first securely apply the parking brake, and then put the selector in the parking lock position. Thanks to this order of operations, the locking mechanism will not be too heavily loaded and subsequently it will be possible to easily remove the selector from this position.
Towing to start the engine
Towing or pushing an automatic transmission vehicle to start the engine can never start the engine.
