When the corresponding keys are pressed, heated or unheated fresh air comes out of all nozzles (mode "ECON") or chilled air (mode "AUTO").
Nozzles are controlled by keys 1, 13, 14.
Additionally, nozzles 3 and 4 can be opened or closed individually.

Depending on the position of the dial, the air flow changes its direction in height.
If you turn the dial under the deflector grille, the direction of the air flow in the horizontal plane changes.
The nozzles 2 keep the lower part of the windshield defogged.
The rear nozzles, located in the leg area, are regulated together with the nozzles 5.
General instructions
Make sure that the sensor located between the windshield air nozzles in the middle of the instrument panel and the deflector grille (pos. 18) were not covered by anything.
In order for the installation "Climatronic" function, the air intake in front of the windshield must be free of ice, snow or leaves.
The heating capacity of the system depends on the coolant temperature of the engine cooling system - therefore, the greatest heating occurs when the engine is warmed up to operating temperature.
If the mode "AUTO" has not been turned on for a long time, an unpleasant odor may appear due to the accumulation of various kinds of deposits on the evaporator.
To avoid unpleasant odours, switch on the air conditioner at the highest fan setting – also during the cold season – at least once a month. At the same time, open one of the windows for a short time.
Used air is removed through outlets in the rear of the body; these openings should not be blocked.
On a sedan car, the gap between the luggage rack and the rear window, which serves to remove used air, must not be covered with anything.
At high temperatures and high humidity of the outside air, condensation may drip from the evaporator and form a puddle under the vehicle. This is normal and does not indicate a leak in the system.
To prevent the windows from misting up when driving at low speeds, turn on the lowest fan setting. Select modes for this "ECON" or "AUTO".
Economical plant operation "Climatronic"
When the unit is operating in the air cooling mode, its compressor is driven by the engine, and therefore the nature of the use of the unit affects fuel consumption. In order to reduce the installation time as much as possible, the following recommendations should be taken into account:
If the inside of a parked vehicle has become very hot due to solar radiation, it is recommended to open windows or doors for a short time to ventilate the interior.
Do not leave the refrigeration unit running while the vehicle is in motion, with the windows or sunroof open.
If the desired temperature in the passenger compartment can be obtained without turning on the refrigeration unit, select the operating mode "ECON".
Plant failures
If, after switching on the ignition, all symbols on the display flash for approximately 15 seconds, the installation is faulty - contact a Volkswagen service company.
