Installation of mirrors
Rear-view mirrors must be installed before starting a trip in such a way that at any time you can see the traffic situation behind the car.
Anti-glare interior mirror
In the main position of the mirror, the lever on the bottom of the mirror should point forward.
To achieve an anti-glare effect, move the lever back.
Installation of exterior mirrors from the inside without electric drive is carried out manually using buttons located in the door trim.
Installation of exterior mirrors with electric drive is carried out by pressing the edges of button A, located in the upholstery of the driver's door.
By pressing one of the side buttons L and R, the setting is switched from the left to the right exterior mirror and vice versa.
When installing the left exterior mirror, the right mirror moves synchronously. The stand-alone installation of the right exterior mirror is therefore not normally required. If you wish to switch to the right mirror, then in this case, this mirror can be installed independently.
In the event of a malfunction of the electric drive for setting the mirrors, this is signaled after the ignition is switched on by the flashing of the backlight of the power window switches in all doors for approximately 15 seconds. You should contact a Volkswagen workshop.
If the electric drive fails, you can install the exterior mirrors manually by pressing on the edges of the mirror surface.
Memory for exterior mirrors
Vehicles with memory for the driver's seat also have memory for the exterior mirrors.
Any set position of the exterior mirrors is automatically stored in the memory when memorizing the driver's seat adjustments.
The driver's seat must be adjusted first. Then mirrors are installed in accordance with the installation of the driver's seat.
Automatic setting of the right exterior mirror when reversing
When reverse gear is engaged, the right exterior mirror automatically assumes a pre-set position, if such a position has been previously set.
This ensures that the right curbstone is visible when parking. The mirror returns to its normal position as soon as the reverse gear is disengaged.
The preset position of the right exterior mirror for reversing can be changed and memorized in accordance with individual characteristics.
Application instructions for convex and aspherical exterior mirrors
Convex rear-view mirrors increase the field of view, while objects are presented in a reduced form. For this reason, these mirrors are only very conditionally suitable for estimating the distance to vehicles moving behind.
Aspherical mirrors have a mirror surface of different curvature. These wide angle mirrors increase the field of view even more than convex mirrors. They are also only very limitedly useful for estimating the distance to vehicles following.
Heated mirrors
The electrically adjustable exterior mirrors are heated as long as the heated rear window is on. The ignition must be on.
Folding outside mirrors
The car's exterior mirrors can be folded down. To do this, press the mirror housing to the car body.
Before passing through an automatic car wash, the exterior mirrors must be pressed against the body to prevent damage to them.
Mirrors with electric folding mirrors
Folding the mirrors is recommended, for example, to protect them from damage when the car is parked or when driving in tight spaces.
By simultaneously pressing and holding down both buttons L and R, both exterior mirrors are pressed against the body.
If these two buttons L and R are pressed again, the mirrors return to their original position again.
If the position of the exterior mirror housing has changed due to force (for example, when touching another vehicle while maneuvering), both mirrors should be pressed against the stop to the body using an electric drive. In no case should you restore the position of the mirror by hand, as this will adversely affect the operation of the mirror installation mechanism.
If there is a risk of damage to the exterior mirror housings, you can interrupt the process by pressing the mirrors to the body and returning them to their original position. To do this, immediately lower both buttons L and R.
