Difficulty starting the engine or the engine does not start
| Cause | Elimination Method |
| Incorrect actions when starting a gasoline engine | Apply the handbrake and press the clutch. On models with an automatic transmission, set the selector lever to position P or N. Turn the ignition key to start the engine and, after starting the engine, release the ignition key. Do not press the accelerator pedal. The movement can be started immediately after starting the engine, even in winter. If after cranking the engine with the starter for 10 seconds the engine does not start, interrupt the process of starting the engine and repeat it after at least 30 seconds.
With several successive attempts to start the engine, the catalyst can be damaged, as unburned fuel enters the exhaust system and is deposited on the catalyst cells. When starting a hot engine, after the engine starts running, depress the accelerator pedal lightly. |
| Incorrect start of the diesel engine | Starting the engine when the air temperature is less than +5°С. Set the selector lever to position P or N. Turn the key in the ignition switch to position 2 and after turning off the engine preheating warning lamp, start the engine, but do not press the accelerator pedal. If the engine does not start, re-preheat the engine and try to start the engine again.
When preheating the diesel engine, turn off all unnecessary electrical consumers. When starting the engine at an air temperature of more than +5°С no preheating of the engine is required. |
