Note: The engine should be warm to the touch.
Work order
During further operations, the ground wire must be disconnected from the battery. Therefore, you must first check whether a radio with coding is installed in the car.
After installation, it is necessary to reinstall all cable fasteners that are removed or cut off during dismantling.
Change the engine oil if the oil is contaminated.
Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition off.
Remove, if present, the engine cover.
Then drain the coolant.
Pic. 2.88. Exhaust holder
Unscrew the exhaust system holder (pic. 2.88).
Note: On vehicles with engine codes BLX and BVX, the exhaust system bracket is removed together with the cable duct for the lambda probes behind the catalytic converter.
Pic. 2.90. Downpipe mount
Unscrew the nuts securing the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold and disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold (pic. 2.90).
Note: The split elements in the downpipe must not be bent more than 10°. There is a risk of damage
Pic. 2.163. Bolts of fastening of the left rack of an exhaust manifold
Turn away bolts 1–3 and remove the left rack of a final collector (pic. 2.163).
Pic. 2.164. Bolts of fastening of the right rack of a final collector
Remove the right exhaust manifold strut (pic. 2.164).
Pic. 2.83. Air filter housing with air hose
Disconnect the hose 1 and the connector from the intake air temperature sensor 2 on the air filter housing 9 fig. 2.83).
Unscrew bolts 3 and remove the air filter housing with suction hose 4.
Pic. 2.165. Water hose attachment
Disconnect the water hose from the cylinder head (pic. 2.165).
Remove the suction pipe.
Remove/disconnect all other available electrical wires from the cylinder head.
Vehicles with engine codes BLR, BLX, BVX and BVY
Remove the EGR connecting pipe between the intake manifold and the EGR valve.
Disconnect the water hoses from the EGR valve.
Continuation of assembly operations for all vehicles
Remove poly V-belt.
Remove the locking pin from the V-ribbed belt tensioner.
Remove the toothed belt.
Remove the cylinder head cover.
Pic. 2.166. How to loosen the cylinder head bolts
Loosen the bolts on the cylinder head in the sequence shown and remove them completely (pic. 2.166).
Remove the cylinder head.
Note: Check if all hoses and lines between engine, gearbox and body are disconnected.
