Removing the phase shifter
Remove the suction pipe.
Remove the high pressure pump.
Remove the cylinder head cover.

Remove the housing with the variable valve timing (pic. 2.128).

Align the mark on the camshaft gear with the mark on the timing belt cover. The notches are vertically opposite each other (pic. 2.115).

Establish a clamp of cam-shafts, as it is shown in drawing 2.129, and fix it.
Unscrew the fixing bolt of the phase shifter with an end cap.

Compress the chain tensioner A and secure it with the locking pin B (pic. 2.130).
Unscrew the fastening bolt of the phase shifter and remove it together with the chain.
Installing the phase shifter
The camshafts must be locked with a camshaft lock.
Put the chain on the phase shifter.

Place a phase shifter in front of the exhaust camshaft to align cutout A with stud B (pic. 2.131).

In this position, lay the chain first at the top on the intake camshaft sprocket (pic. 2.132).

Slowly turn the intake camshaft with a trunnion wrench in the direction of arrow A until the phase shifter fits onto the camshaft (pic. 2.133).
Note: If the pin does not fit into the cutout, the chain must be removed and reinstalled.
Tighten the phase shifter mounting bolt. Tightening torque 20 Nm + tighten +45°. To do this, use the end nozzle.
Remove lock pin B (pic. 2.130).
Further installation and assembly is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
