The nominal voltage of both batteries must be 12 V. The capacity of the battery used to start the engine must not be significantly lower than the capacity of the discharged battery.
For this purpose, it is necessary to use auxiliary starting wires with a sufficiently large cross section. When using wires, follow the instructions from the wire manufacturer.
We recommend that you purchase auxiliary jump leads from the original accessories kit or from the battery manufacturer's retail outlets. Use only auxiliary starter leads with insulated terminals.
A discharged battery can freeze even at a temperature of a few degrees below zero. Before starting with a battery in another vehicle, allow a frozen battery to warm up slowly, otherwise it may explode during starting.
The engine of the vehicle whose battery is used to start your vehicle must be running when starting.
- A - a discharged battery;
- B - the battery with which the car engine will be started.
Connecting both vehicles with auxiliary jumper wires is absolutely necessary in the following sequence:
- one end positive (+) wire, usually marked in red, connect to the positive (+) pole terminal of a discharged battery;
- the other end of the positive (+) connect wires to positive (+) terminal of an auxiliary battery located in another vehicle, which will be used to start:
- one end of the negative (-) wire, usually marked in black, connect to the negative (-) the terminal of the auxiliary battery located in the vehicle, which will be used to start;
- the other end of the negative (-) connect the wires firmly to that part of the starting car that is firmly connected to its engine block, or connect it directly to the engine block itself.
Attention! Do not connect the wire to the negative (-) terminal of a discharged battery. Strong sparking that occurs when starting the engine can ignite the explosive gas emitted from the battery.
Do not lean over the batteries as this exposes you to the risk of injury from the corrosive electrolyte.
Eliminate the possibility of the presence of ignition sources (open flame, lit cigarette, etc.).
Attention! Under no circumstances should mutual contact be allowed between the bare, bare parts of the terminals of the auxiliary jumper wires to facilitate starting. In addition, it must not be allowed that the auxiliary start wire connected to the positive (+) terminal of the battery has come into contact with conductive (metal) parts of the vehicle, as a result of which there is a danger of a short circuit.
Position the starting aid wires in such a way that they cannot be damaged by moving parts in the engine compartment of both vehicles.
Start the car engine. If the engine does not start within approximately 10 seconds, then stop starting the engine and restart after approximately 30 seconds.
After starting the engine, disconnect the auxiliary start wires in reverse order.
