Fault memory interrogation

To interrogate the fault memory, a VAG 1551 fault code reader and a VAG 1551/3 wire are required.

1. Connect the VAG 1551 fault code reader (V.A.G 1552) and by typing «01» «Address word», select the engine control unit. The engine must be running at idle. Turn on the printer of the fault code reader, the signal light should light up. In cases where the engine does not start, turn on the ignition. The display should show the following information:


2. Dial «02» to select a function «Fault memory interrogation» and confirm by pressing the button «Q». The display should show the following information:

If one or more faults are stored

4. Stored faults are displayed and printed one by one. After reading them, the following information should appear on the display:

If there are no faults in the memory

5. Click «→». The display should show the following information:


6. Click «06» to select a function «Completion of diagnostics» and confirm by pressing the button «Q».
