Attention! A defective hydraulic compensator must be replaced as a whole. It is beyond repair. Irregular clanging noise when starting the engine is normal.
1. Start the engine and let it run until the cooling fan turns on once.
2. Increase the speed to 2500 rpm for about two minutes.
3. If after that the hydraulic lifters still make noise, check them in the following sequence:
- remove the cylinder head cover;
- turn the crankshaft so that the cam of the hydraulic compensator under test is installed upwards;
- determine the gap between the hydraulic compensator and the cam;
- press the hydraulic lifter with a wooden or plastic wedge (pic. 6.34). If, when the hydraulic compensator is pressed, the gap between it and the cam is greater than 0.20 mm, it must be replaced.
