Attention: The bolts are self-locking, so after releasing they must be replaced with new ones.

Door adjustment

For correct adjustment of the front door, it is necessary to release the hinges at the A-pillar from the passenger compartment (bolts -6-, -11-). To do this, next to the upper hinge, remove the dashboard, and next to the lower hinge, remove the lower trim of the A-pillar, see p. 217/220.


At the rear door, to loosen the inner bolts, you need to remove the lower trim of the B-pillar.

Note: Other adjustments, such as moving the door up, are useless as the door will then move down again.

Check the gaps in the door joints. The door is correctly adjusted when the gap is even on all sides in the closed position, it does not protrude too far inward or outward, and its contours coincide with adjacent parts.

Prescribed joint clearances/POLO:

• Front Door - Front Fender 3.0^+1,0 mm
• Front door - rear wing (3-door model) 3,7^+1,0 mm
• front door - back door (5 door model) 3,7^+1,0 mm
• Tailgate - rear fender (5 door model) 3,0^+1,0 mm
• Door - door sill 4.0^+1,0 mm

If the specified values are not observed, unscrew the fastening of the locking clip to the body (to the B- or C-pillar respectively) and release the hinges. Move the door to align it.

After alignment, tighten the hinge bolts to 20 Nm. and then with a locked wrench, tighten them in the tightening direction by ¼ turn (90°).

Only IBIZA

The door adjustment for the IBIZA model is basically the same as for the POLO. Only at the upper hinge, instead of the nut -3-, the bolt is unscrewed. When installing, the bolt is replaced with a new one and tightened with a torque of 30 Nm.

Specified joint clearances/IBIZA:

• Front Door - Front Fender 3mm
• Front door - rear wing (3-door model) 3 to 4 mm
• front door - back door (5 door model) 3 to 4 mm
• Tailgate - rear fender (5 door model) 2 to 3.5 mm
• Door - door sill 4 mm
