Removing
Remove center console.
Release the handbrake.
Loosen adjusting nut -arrow- until the handbrake cable can be unhooked from the compensation clip.
Safety note
There is a risk of accident when lifting the vehicle! You must first read the section «Vehicle lifting».
Mark the direction of tire rotation with an arrow. Loosen wheel bolts. Raise the car from behind on the goats and remove the wheels.
Attention: Strictly follow the instructions given in chapter «Removal and installation of a wheel».
Unscrew lock nuts -1- and lower underbody protection until guide tube -2- for handbrake cable is visible.
Vehicles with rear disc brakes: Using a screwdriver, press out retaining clip -1- and remove downwards. Press the brake lever -2- in the direction of the arrow and unhook the handbrake cable -3-.
Car with rear drum brakes: remove the brake drum and unhook it at the brake shoe handbrake cable.
Detach handbrake cable from retainer -A- on rear axle carrier and remove from retainer.
Pull handbrake cable out of guide tube -1- in direction of arrow
Installation
Insert the handbrake cable into the guide tube.
Vehicles with rear disc brakes: Press the brake lever -2- in the direction of the arrow and attach the handbrake cable -3-. Insert retaining clip -1- for securing handbrake cable into counterholder.
Car with rear drum brakes: attach the handbrake cable to the brake shoe and install brake drum.
Attach handbrake cable to holder -A- on rear axle carrier. The retaining ring on the handbrake cable must be centered on the holder.
Attach handbrake cable to holders -arrows-.
Attach underbody protection.
Adjust the handbrake see relevant chapter.
Ensure the same direction of rotation of the tires, bolt the wheels, lower the vehicle and only then tighten the wheel bolts in a crosswise manner to 120 Nm.
Attention: Strictly follow the instructions given in chapter «Removal and installation of a wheel».
Install center console.
