Removing
Note: Removal of the tie rod assembly is possible only after dismantling the steering mechanism (at the service station).
Check the clearance in the steering rods: raise the car in front on the goats so that the wheels hang freely. Move wheels and tie rods. In this case, there should be no gaps.
Mark the direction of tire rotation with an arrow. Loosen wheel bolts. Raise the car in front of the goats and remove the front wheel.
Attention: Strictly follow the instructions given in chapter «Removal and installation of a wheel».
Check fastening. Check protective cover for damage, cracks and correct position. Replace ball joint if necessary.
Loosen hexagon nut -1- so that it acts as a support for the puller being used.
Loosen hexagon nut -1- until it supports the puller being used.
Press the tie rod pin -2- out of the steering knuckle using a puller, eg HAZET 779-1.
Completely unscrew the nut securing the tip pin and remove the tie rod end from the steering knuckle arm.
Mark the mounting position of the tie rod end in relation to the inner tie rod so that the lock nut can be tightened in the original position during reassembly.
Loosen locknut -2-. At the same time, use an open end wrench to hold the tie rod on the hexagon.
Unscrew tip -3- from tie rod -1-. To facilitate subsequent assembly, count and record the number of turns when unscrewing.
Installation
Pay attention to the marking on the tie rod end: C - right end, D - left end.
Wipe off the grease from the taper pin of the handpiece pivot.
Screw the tip onto the inner tie rod according to the previously calculated number of turns.
Tighten lock nut -2- hand-tight, see figure S48-0120.
Align the tie rod so that the tie rod end is in the installation position.
Insert the tie rod end pin into the steering knuckle arm as far as it will go.
- Screw a new nut -1 onto the tie rod end pin and tighten it to 20 Nm, then tighten it ¼ turn in the direction of tightening (90°), see drawing S48-0114.
Note: To prevent the hinge pin from turning when tightening, it must be held in place with an 8 mm Allen key.
Tighten locknut to 50 Nm. While doing this, hold the tie rod by the hexagon wrench with an open end.
Ensure the same direction of rotation of the tire, screw on the wheel, lower the vehicle and only then tighten the wheel bolts in a crosswise manner to 120 Nm.
Attention: Strictly follow the instructions given in chapter «Removal and installation of a wheel».
Check the chassis parameters at the service station.
