Removal and installation of a steering wheel

Removing

Turn the wheels of the car to the straight ahead position.



Remove the airbag assembly -4- following the safety instructions, see relevant section above.

Unplug connector -2- at return ring. 3 - plug for the airbag assembly.

Unscrew the bolt securing the steering wheel -5-

Remove steering wheel.

Installation

Make sure the wheels of the vehicle are in the straight ahead position.

Connect the plug connector at the return ring.

Install the steering wheel on the splines of the steering shaft so that the existing mark on the steering wheel hub and the punching point on the steering shaft match.

Note: The steering shaft supplied as a spare part does not have a punch point.

Clean bolt -5-, coat with LOCTITE 243, screw in and tighten to 55 Nm.

Note: The bolt can be used up to five times. After each dismantling, mark the next control point on the bolt with a core.

On a level road, check whether the steering wheel is not tilted when the vehicle is moving in a straight line, rearrange the wheel if necessary.

Install airbag, see chapter above.
