It is not allowed to install any rear-facing child safety seats in the passenger seat next to the driver, with the exception of a special child seat with automatic identification by the security system.
Attention: For safety reasons, do not carry out any work on parts related to airbag systems and seat belt pretensioners.
Before removing and installing the driver's airbag assembly, always follow the instructions below:
First, disconnect the ground wire from the battery (-), and then the positive wire (+).
Attention: Read the instructions in chapter «Removing and installing the battery».
Insulate both poles of the battery to prevent accidental contact.
Turn the vehicle wheels and steering wheel to the straight ahead position.
Before removal (touch) the airbag assembly, any static electricity that may be present must be removed. To do this, briefly grasp the locking wedge of the door or the body.
Attention: When connecting the battery, there should be no people inside the car.
General instructions:
- Never install airbag components from another vehicle or install a different steering wheel. When replacing, always use new parts.
- Even after a light collision in which the airbag did not deploy, the airbag system and seat belt pretensioners must be checked by a workshop.
- The airbag system should only be checked by a workshop. Never test with a test lamp, voltmeter or ohmmeter.
- Airbag components dropped from a height of more than 0.5 m must always be replaced.
- Airbag components must not be exposed to high temperatures or open flames. The pillow assembly must not be exposed to temperatures above +100°C even for a short time.
- Keep airbag components away from water, grease or oil. Wipe the parts immediately with a dry cloth.
- When removed, always lay the airbag unit in such a way that its elastic part points upwards. If the assembly is laid in reverse, the gas generator will be thrown upwards in the event of an accidental ignition - risk of injury.
- Do not leave the air bag assembly unattended during work breaks.
- The airbag assembly cannot be repaired and must always be replaced as a complete set in the event of a malfunction. Since the assembly contains an explosive, it must be kept under lock and key or under proper supervision.
- The airbag assembly must be decommissioned before the vehicle is scrapped (only at service stations).
- Airbag assemblies have a limited shelf life. If the airbag assembly is replaced, the replacement of the assembly must be recorded in the service book. After 14 years, the airbag assembly must be replaced with a new one.
For side airbags, follow the instructions below:
- Only seat covers approved for use with side airbags must be used on seats (are identified by the Airbag patches on the covers).
- Seat backs should not be fitted with decorative covers, as this may prevent the correct operation of the side airbags.
- It is not allowed to use on the seats covers, rugs and similar items that prevent the identification of the seats and the correct operation of the airbags.
- In case of damage to the cover in the area of the side airbag (torn, burned, etc.) For safety reasons, the cover must always be replaced with a new one, otherwise the airbag may not deploy properly.
- Do not stick needles or similar sharp objects into the cover in the area of the airbag and mat with sensor.
