To repair damage, you need a varnish of the same color, because after completion of the work, even the slightest difference in color is striking. The color tone of the vehicle is identified by the paint number. The paint number -2- can be found on the vehicle data plate -1-. The vehicle data plate is available both in the spare wheel well on the left and in the service book.
However, there may be a difference between the original and repair paintwork. This is because the paintwork on your vehicle tarnishes over time as a result of aging, solar radiation, extreme temperatures, weather conditions and chemical attack from industrial gases. In addition, damage to the paintwork, its pigmentation and fading can occur when cleaning and caring for it with unsuitable materials.
Paint coating type «metal lick» consists of two layers: primer «metallic» and colorless lacquer. When varnishing, a transparent pack is sprayed over a wet layer of primer varnish. Danger of color differences during subsequent varnishing of the type coating «metallic» especially large, since even the difference in viscosity of the repair and original varnish has an effect here.
It makes sense to regularly repair even the smallest damage to the lacquer coating, as this avoids corrosion and subsequent major repairs.
To eliminate minor scratches and traces of stone impacts, which caused only the cleavage of the surface layer of varnish, a varnish pencil or a tube of varnish is generally sufficient. Here we are talking about a small package with a brush built into the lid. Lacquer pencil is offered by shops selling car accessories.
For deep stone marks that already have rust growths, scrape away with a rust remover, knife or small screwdriver until bare metal is exposed. It is important that no such places with rust are visible anymore. Rust remover refers to small plastic bushings that have short, wire-like bristles to remove rust.
Bare metal must be perfectly dry and free of grease. To do this, clean repair areas and surrounding varnish with a silicone remover.
With a thin brush, apply a little primer to a bare metal surface (Primer). Since primer is mostly sold in aerosol cans, spray some primer into the top of the can and dip the brush into it.
After the primer dries, apply drip varnish to the damaged area. In jars with drip varnish, the brush is already mounted in the lid of the jar. If only an aerosol can of suitable paint is available, spray some paint into the lid of the can and then apply the lacquer with a thin brush for waterproof paint. At the same time, apply only one thin layer of varnish in one working operation so that it cannot flow down. After that, dry the paint well. Repeat the process until the dent is filled and the repaired area no longer forms depressions in relation to the surrounding paintwork.
