The following special tool is required to change the oil:
- Special tool for releasing the oil filter (oil filter pliers, band or wrench).
- Depending on the version, an interchangeable 36 mm socket or wrench for releasing the HAZET 2169-36 oil filter cover.
If oil is sucked out of the sump:
- Syringe for suction of oil from the sump. The outer diameter of the connecting hose must not exceed 10 mm.
- Oil collection container.
If the oil drains from the sump:
- Inspection pit or hydraulic jack with jack stands.
- Drain container that holds at least 6 liters of oil.
Required Consumables/Replacement Parts:
- Depending on the engine, 3...5 liters of engine oil. Only use approved by VW/SEAT engine oils.
- Depending on the engine, a replacement oil filter element or an oil filter assembly.
Note: Prefabricated oil filters with a replaceable filter element are available for sale.
- Only when the oil is drained from the sump: aluminum O-ring for the drain plug. Sometimes the O-ring comes with the oil filter.
Note: oil sales points accept the appropriate amount of old oil free of charge, therefore, after buying oil, keep the receipt and canister for later return of the old oil! In order to protect the environment, under no circumstances should old oil be simply drained or disposed of with household waste.
Assembly oil filter with replaceable filter element
On sale there are prefabricated oil filters with a replaceable filter element made of paper. Their advantage is that it is no longer necessary to replace the filter assembly. When changing the oil, only the replacement filter element is disposed of.
The oil filter consists of a housing -1 -, a cover -2- and a replaceable filter element -3-. The filter housing is screwed to the crankcase instead of the previous non-separable filter. Depending on the manufacturer, the oil filter housing has a drain hole with a screw plug -4-. Replaceable filter elements from different manufacturers are interchangeable regardless of the design of the filter.
HENGST oil filters are available for sale (on the image), MANN+HUMMEL and also MAHLE/ KNECHT.
The capacity of the lubrication system, taking into account the volume of the oil filter:
Note: The given capacity values are guide values. In any case, the engine oil level must be checked with a dipstick and, if necessary, corrected.
Engine oil can be sucked out through the dipstick guide tube or drained from the sump. To suck out the oil, you need a suitable syringe, the hose from which would pass into the dipstick tube and would be of sufficient length.
