The AUA/BBY/AUB/BBZ 4-cylinder 1.4L petrol engine has an aluminum alloy cylinder block and cylinder head. Located in the crankcase above the cylinder head, camshafts actuate four valves above each cylinder via pressure levers with rollers. The pressure levers are fixed at one end to hydraulic support elements that eliminate the gaps in the actuator of the respective valves. Thanks to the needle bearings in the rollers of the pressure levers, the movement of the cams is transmitted to the valve stems with minimal friction losses. The camshafts are driven by the crankshaft using a toothed belt.
The aluminum alloy cylinder block is fitted with gray cast iron cylinder bushings. The crankshaft is mounted in the cylinder block on five main bearings. Do not loosen the bearing cap bolts, otherwise the cylinder block and crankshaft will need to be replaced as a complete set. The coolant pump is mounted on the cylinder block at the front and is driven by a toothed belt. The oil pump gear is driven through the drive pin from the crankshaft.
