Removing
Comply with safety and cleanliness rules see relevant chapter.
Safety note: There is a risk of accident when lifting the vehicle! You must first read the section «Vehicle lifting».
Raise the car.
Place a container under the fuel filter -1- to collect the escaping fuel. The fuel filter is located at the bottom of a body near a fuel tank.
Safety instructions: The fuel supply line is under pressure! Cover the joint with a thick, clean cloth before releasing the hose. Put on goggles and only then, carefully releasing the connection, release the fuel pressure.
Disconnect the fuel lines -2-, -3- and -4- by pressing the locking buttons on the respective quick couplings. Note: Vehicles with direct injection gasoline engines do not have a fuel return line or fuel pressure regulator on the fuel filter. Here the fuel return line from the high pressure pump goes to the fuel tank.
Loosen, but do not unscrew, the screw -5- of the fastening clamp.
Remove the fuel filter and drain the fuel contained in it into a container underneath.
Installation
Insert the fuel filter into the clamp so that the arrow on the filter points in the direction of fluid flow, i.e. from the fuel tank to the engine.
Tighten the fuel filter clamp screw to 5 Nm.
Connect and secure fuel hoses. Do not interchange black fuel supply line -4- with blue fuel return line -3-.
Note: The fuel return line is connected to the fuel pressure regulator.
Lower the car.
Attention: If the engine does not start after replacing the fuel filter, it is necessary to remove air from the fuel system through the air lock on the fuel manifold.
