Examination
Start the engine and set the speed to about 1000 rpm. Read the angle readings of the closed state of the contacts.
Increase speed by about 2 times. In this case, the pointer of the measuring device should not deviate by more than±1°from the previous reading. A larger deviation indicates wear on the ignition distributor shaft. In this case, the ignition distributor must be replaced.
Compare the measured value with the desired value.
Required value: 44-50° (50-56%); Permissible limits: 46-58° (46-64%).
This means that new breaker contacts should be adjusted to the required value, and used contacts should not be adjusted as long as the closed angle is within acceptable limits.
Adjustment
Remove the ignition distributor cap and its slider.
Loosen fixing bolt "A" at the breaker contact. At starting speed (engine rotation by starter) change the distance between the contacts with a screwdriver until the measuring device shows the correct value of the angle of their closed state (44-50°).
Tighten the fixing bolt and check if the angle is out of tolerance.
Assemble the ignition distributor and re-check the angle of the closed state of the contacts with the engine running.
Adjust ignition timing.
