Attention! If the engine oil is contaminated due to scuffing on the main and connecting rod bearings, when metal filings enter the crankcase, the oil cooler must be replaced.
Removing
Oil cooler can be removed and installed with the engine installed. In this case, you only need to remove the engine cover.
On Kafer 1200 vehicles: remove the cooling fan.
Loosen the 3 oil cooler mounting nuts using a 10 mm bent box wrench, remove the cooler with spring washers and both seals.
On Kafer 1300/1600 vehicles: remove the oil cooler air vent plate, remove the oil cooler with angled flange and seals.
Installation
If possible, check the oil cooler for leaks (work done in the workshop).
Attention! If the radiator is leaking, check the operation of the safety valve.
On Kafer 1300/1600 vehicles: If the intermediate flange is removed, use new O-rings.
Install new sealing rings. Install oil cooler and secure with nuts through spring washers.
On Kafer 1300/1600: Attach the oil cooler vent shield.
On Kafer 1200 vehicles: Install a cooling fan.
