After starting the engine, the oil pump starts to work and oil pressure builds up. The switch inside the sensor turns off and the control lamp goes out, indicating that the pressure is sufficient. If the warning lamp lights up for a short time during sharp turns of the car, this usually indicates an insufficient oil level in the oil sump.
Removal and installation
Disconnect the electrical wire from the oil pressure sensor and unscrew the sensor.
When installing, carefully screw in the sensor and tighten to 10 Nm (1.0 kgcm).
Examination
Screw a control pressure gauge with adapter into place of the oil pressure sensor.
Connect a test lamp to the oil pressure switch and terminal 15 of the ignition coil.
Turn on the ignition. The control lamp should light up. Otherwise, replace the sensor.
Start the engine, slowly increase the speed, thereby increasing the oil pressure. At a pressure of 0.15-0.45 bar (atm) the control lamp on the instrument panel should go out.
Raise the engine speed further At about 2000 rpm and an oil temperature of about 80°C, the minimum oil pressure must be 2.0 bar (atm).
If the oil pressure at these speeds does not reach the specified value, then this indicates wear on the crankshaft bearings.
