Attention!
- Never mix brake fluid with fluids containing mineral oils (oil, gasoline, cleaners). Mineral oils damage the seals and seals of the brake system.
- Brake fluid is poisonous. In addition, due to its corrosive action, it must not be allowed to come into contact with the paintwork.
- Brake fluid is hygroscopic, i.e. it absorbs moisture from the surrounding air and should therefore always be stored in hermetically sealed containers.
- Spilled brake fluid should be washed off with plenty of water.
- Used brake fluid must not be used!
Preparatory work
1. Unscrew the cover (1) brake fluid bottle. Do not remove the strainer from the brake fluid reservoir.
2. Pump out as much brake fluid as possible from the reservoir.
3. Screw the adapter (1) to the brake fluid reservoir.
4. Connect the suction hose of the brake filling and bleeding device to the adapter (1).
5. Disconnect the suction hose.
6. Install a spacer between the driver's seat and the brake pedal and apply force.
7. Connect the filling hose to the adapter.
8. Remove the bleed valve caps.
Brake Fluid Replacement
With the connection described above, the removal of the used liquid from the branches of the hydraulic system is carried out simultaneously with the filling of the branches of the system with new liquid and the removal of air from the same branch of the hydraulic system.
The sequence of actions when removing air from the branches of the hydraulic brake system
Actions when replacing brake fluid in the branches of the hydraulic system:
1. Hose (1) connect the containers to the bleed valve on the rear right wheel.
2. Unscrew the bleed valve and drain 0.25 liters of brake fluid.
3. Close the bleed valve and tighten it to 10 Nm.
4. Repeat the same actions on other branches of the system in the sequence:
- back right,
- back left,
- front right, front left.
Total volume of brake fluid to be replaced: approx. 1 litre.
Final works
1. Close the bleed valves with caps.
2. Close the filling branch of the device.
3. Disconnect the inlet hose from the adapter.
4. Unscrew the adapter from the brake fluid reservoir.
5. Check and, if necessary, correct the brake fluid level.
6. Screw on the lid (1) brake fluid bottle.
7. Remove spacer.
6. Check the pressing force and free travel of the brake pedal. The free play should be no more than 1/3 of the pedal travel.
Brake fluid specification
Starting with the 2006 model year, a new brake fluid is used that meets the VW501 14 approval.
New brake fluid can also be used on vehicles from earlier years of production. For use on these vehicles, the new brake fluid can be mixed with a fluid previously used that complies with US FMVSS 116 DOT 4.
On vehicles manufactured since 2006, only brake fluid that meets the VW501 14 standard should be used.
