Removing
1. Remove the engine cover.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Remove intake manifold.
4. Unscrew the screws securing the distributor of the cooling system (arrows).
5. Disconnect the coolant hose (arrow) from the fitting for removing vapor-air plugs on the back of the cylinder head.
6. Disconnect from the cylinder head all electrical wires that must be disconnected and put them aside.
7. Remove the bolts of the exhaust pipe bracket (arrows).
8. Disconnect the downpipe from the exhaust manifold and remove the downpipe.
9. Remove poly V-belt.
10. Remove the upper part of the timing case.
11. Rotating the crankshaft, set the camshaft pulley to the TDC position of the first cylinder. The mark on the camshaft sprocket must align with the arrow on the toothed belt guard,
12. Loosen the fixing nut of the tension roller and remove the toothed belt from the camshaft pulley.
13. Remove the fixing nut and washer of the tension roller.
14. After that, turn the crankshaft back a little.
15. Remove the camshaft sprocket.
16. Remove the feather key from the camshaft.
17. Remove the bolts securing the rear timing cover (arrows).
18. Remove the valve cover.
19. Loosen and unscrew the MCC mounting screws in the specified sequence using a wrench.
20. Slightly lift the cylinder head and remove it from the engine by passing around the timing case from the side (not from above).
Attention!
- The tensioner pulley remains on the engine mount bracket.
- The cylinder head must be handled with great care to prevent damage to it.
Installation
1. There must be no oil or coolant in the threaded holes of the cylinder head bolts located in the cylinder block.
2. A new cylinder head gasket should be removed from the packaging immediately before installation.
Attention!
- The gasket must be handled very carefully.
- Replace the cylinder head screws with new ones.
- Fill the cylinders with clean rags so that dirt and abrasive residues cannot fall into the cylinders.
- Also, do not allow dirt and abrasives to enter the cooling system.
3. Being careful, clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and cylinder block. In this case, it is unacceptable to leave scratches on the mating surfaces.
4. Carefully remove the remnants of abrasive and polishing compounds, as well as rags.
5. If, after removing the cylinder head, the crankshaft turned, re-set it to the TDC position of the first cylinder and turn it back slightly.
6. Install guide pins for centering (1) into the outer holes on the exhaust manifold side.
7. Install a new cylinder head gasket. The inscription on the gasket (part no) while it should be visible.
Attention! When installing the cylinder head, the tension roller must be mounted on a stud.
8. Install the cylinder head, insert and hand-tighten the remaining 8 screws securing the cylinder head.
9. Unscrew the guide pins with a stud driver.
10. Insert the two remaining cylinder head mounting bolts and tighten by hand.
11. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the specified sequence as follows.
Attention! When rotating the camshaft, the crankshaft must not be in the TDC position. Possible damage to valves and piston crowns.
12. Install a toothed belt and adjust the valve timing.
13. Install poly V-belt.
Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
