Checking the thickness of the rear brake pads

Before changing the rear brake pads, measure the thickness of the pads on the brake pads. The brake pads have a service life of approximately 50,000 km of the car, during which periodically check the thickness of the lining on the brake pads. There is a rule that under unfavorable driving conditions 1 mm of the brake lining is ground off at least 1000 km. In general, pads last much longer.

For a rough estimate of the thickness of the brake pads, which should be done regularly, illuminate the caliper with a portable lamp and visually assess the thickness of the brake pads.

To accurately determine the thickness of the brake pads, it is necessary to remove the rear wheel (jacking up the back of the car and removing the wheel bolts) and measure the thickness of the outer and inner brake pads.

If the thickness of the lining together with the brake pad is 7 mm, then the wear limit of the lining has been reached and the pads should be replaced. The thickness of the pad without pad is 5 mm and wear of the pad to a thickness of 2 mm is the limit.

Attention! Always replace brake pads in pairs (included 4 pcs.), even if the lining of only one pad is worn out and at the same time on both brake mechanisms of the rear wheels. Rearranging the brake pads is prohibited.
