Removal and installation of the power steering pump on a vehicle with a four-cylinder engine
Figure 272 shows the location of the power steering pump. When dismantling it, remember where the bolts of various lengths were installed.
Follow the instructions below when installing the pump:
- systematically replace the sealing rings;
- never refill the hydraulic system with hydraulic fluid that leaked out when the power steering pump was removed;
- the bearing surface of the power steering pump and the threads must be clean;
- Fill the power steering pump with the recommended fluid. Turn the pump several times so that the oil is evenly distributed inside it;

- put on the power steering pump 1 (pic. 273), with bolts 3 installed on the swivel bracket 2 fasteners. Tighten the bolts 4. Install the pulley on the power steering pump and tighten its bolts to the specified tightening torques;
Pic. 274. Installation of a rotary bracket with a power steering pump: 1 - swivel bracket; 2 - pump; 3 - eccentric bolt; 4 - holder; 5 - bolt
- install bracket 1 (pic. 274) and the pump 2 with eccentric bolts 3 onto the holder 4. Screw the eccentric bolt 3 into the swivel bracket 1 so that the threaded bush touches the holder 4. Do not tighten the bolt. Wrap, but do not tighten bolt 5;

- attach the holder with the pump and swivel bracket to the bracket 5 (pic. 271) and cylinder block. Screw in bolts 1, 2 and 3 a few turns and then tighten to 25 Nm;
- attach the adjusting bracket 7 with bolts 6 to the cylinder block. Install the adjusting bolt 8 in the swivel bracket. Tighten bolts 6 to 25 Nm;
- install the V-belt and tension it;
- after installing the power steering pump, check the hydraulic fluid level in the reservoir (see 12.3.1). After starting the engine, the fluid level should not drop.
Removal and installation of the power steering pump on the VR6 engine
The power steering pump installed on the VR6 engine and its mounting method are shown in Figure 275. To dismantle it, remove the V-ribbed belt (see subsection 5.7). The order of operations:
- turn off AB;
- place the front of the car on supports;
- remove poly V-belt;
- unscrew the hollow bolt 12 of the discharge pipeline and remove both sealing rings 11;
- loosen the vacuum hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the power steering pump;
- fix the power steering pump pulley in a fixed position and remove the pulley;
Pic. 276. The pump is bolted to the right (1) and left (2)
- unscrew the pump mounting bolts (pic. 276) and remove the pump;
- Fill the power steering pump with the recommended fluid. Turn the pump several times so that the oil is evenly distributed inside it;
- tighten three bolts on the right side and two on the left side (pic. 276). Bolt tightening torque 25 Nm;
- put on the pulley, fix it in a fixed position and tighten 3 bolts with an internal hexagon head with a torque of 25 Nm;
Pic. 277. Screw the M8 bolt in hole A to loosen the tension of the drive belt
- loosen the pressure on the belt tensioner (pic. 277), lay the belt on the pulleys and remove the bolt;

Fastening of the power steering pump on the VR6 engine: 1 - bolts with an internal hexagon, 25 Nm; 2 - a bolt with an internal hexagon, 30 mm long, 25 Nm; 3 - a bolt with an internal hexagon, 20 mm long, 25 Nm; 4 - washer; 5 - a bolt with an internal hexagon, 38 mm long, 25 Nm; 6 - bolts with an internal hexagon, 30 mm long, 25 Nm; 7 - bracket; 8 - pulley; 9 - hose clamp; 10 - power steering pump; 11 - sealing ring; 12 - hollow bolt; 13 - hose
- connect the hoses to the pump (pic. 275). Screw hollow bolt 12 with new sealing rings (tightening torque 30 Nm). Put hose 13 on the fitting and put clamp 9 on it;
- the rest of the work is carried out in the reverse order of the removal process. Fill the power steering with hydraulic fluid and bleed the system (clause 12.3.1). Take a test drive at low speed and check the operation of the hydraulic booster.
