AB consists of:
- monoblock with compartments for batteries;
- lids with filling holes closed with plugs;
- negative and positive plates assembled respectively into semi-blocks;
- separators;
- current-carrying bars with output pins and interelement jumpers that serve to connect the batteries in series to the battery.
The AB installed in Sharan has the following main technical characteristics:
- rated voltage, V 12
- rated capacity:
- with 2.0 l 48 Ah engine
- with VR6 60 Ah motor
- electrolyte density (at air temperature°C):
- Battery fully discharged 1.12 g/cm3 (16°С)
- AB fully charged 1.28 g/cm3 (32°С)
Sharan cars are equipped with maintenance-free batteries, ready for operation - filled with electrolyte and charged, i.e. under normal operating conditions, no electrolyte needs to be added to them. Nevertheless, follow the following recommendations for the operation of the battery:
- before servicing the battery, put on an apron made of tarpaulin or rubberized fabric - it will protect your clothes from electrolyte splashes;
- periodically (at least once every two weeks) clean the surface of the battery cover, as dust, dirt, electrolyte droplets on it lead to rapid self-discharge;
- to clean the AB, moisten a clean rag in a 10% solution of soda ash or ammonia, wipe the surface of the AB with it, and clean all the places where it is difficult to get close with a rag with a brush with hard bristles;
- then wipe the AB dry, discard the used rags, and wash the brush with water;
- check the condition of the battery terminals. Remove large white or greenish deposits with a cloth dampened with hot water;
- clean the AB leads and wire terminals with medium grit sandpaper to a metallic sheen;
- after connecting the stripped wire lugs to the AB terminals, cover both with a protective film (PVK or VTV-1 lubricant, «Unisma», WD-40, etc.);
- To finish cleaning the battery, wash and dry its sides and bottom. This will extend the life of the tray on which it is installed, and the adjacent metal parts;
- check the electrolyte level, which should not be lower than the bottom line located on the outer side of the battery case. If the electrolyte level is below normal, distilled water should be added;
AB, discharged in winter by more than 25%, remove from the car and charge.
