Pic. 456. Using an oil filter puller
The oil filter should be replaced in accordance with the recommendations given in the vehicle's owner's manual. To remove the filter, use either an oil filter remover (pic. 456), or use a screwdriver to pierce the side of the filter housing and, using the screwdriver as a lever, unscrew the filter.
Pic. 457. Mounting the oil filter: 1 - filter base gasket; 2 - base of the oil filter; 3 - bolt, 25 Nm; 4 - sealing ring; 5 - oil cooler; 6 - nut, 25 Nm; 7 - oil filter
If the filter base is removed from the engine, a new gasket must be installed during assembly. Tighten the filter base bolt to 25 Nm. Do not apply any lubricant to the gasket. The way of fastening of the oil filter is shown in fig. 457.
Recommendations for installing the filter are written on a sticker on the filter housing.
Install a new O-ring on the filter, which should be lightly lubricated around the perimeter. Screw on the new filter by hand without using any tool to tighten it.
Note. If you use a special key when tightening the filter, then at the next oil change it may turn out that you will be able to unscrew the old filter with great difficulty.
Check the oil level and add oil to the engine if necessary.
After the car has driven a few kilometers, be sure to check if oil is leaking through the junction of the filter with the filter base.
