Pic. 437. Remove the camshaft sealing ring using a special puller
The camshaft oil seal can be replaced on an installed engine if traces of oil have been noticed near it. The oil seal is located behind the camshaft pulley. To avoid damage to the cylinder head or camshaft, a special oil seal removal tool is required (pic. 437). The cam engages between the sealing lip and the camshaft under the oil seal so that the oil seal can be loosened and pulled out by leverage. The seal can also be removed using a bevelled lever.
In order to gain access to the camshaft, the toothed drive belt should be removed, as described in paragraph 17.4.1.
Pic. 438. Knock off the camshaft gear by inserting a mandrel from behind and briefly hitting it with a plastic or rubber hammer from behind
Lock the camshaft gear in a fixed position (for example, using an old toothed drive belt wrapped around the gear, or a mandrel inserted into one of the holes in the gear) and remove the gear wheel bolt. Remove the bolt and remove the washer. Knock off the gear by inserting a mandrel into it from behind, as shown in fig. 438.
Using pliers, remove the segment key from the camshaft.
Remove the seal in the manner described.
