Both seals can be replaced on an installed engine if you notice traces of leaking oil near them. In addition, a slipping clutch can also indicate a leak in the crankshaft oil seal. In the worst case, oil stains at the front of the engine can lead to slippage of the accessory drive belt, which can cause, for example, a loss of charging power to the alternator.
Removing the front seal
In order to have access to the front crankshaft oil seal, remove the V-ribbed belt, as described in paragraph 17.4.1.
To remove the crankshaft pulley bolt, engage fifth gear and tighten the parking brake lever. Then unscrew the bolt.

At removal of a forward epiploon it is possible to be guided by the description of removal of an epiploon of a camshaft. A lever designed to remove the camshaft oil seal can be used (pic. 438).
Removing the rear seal
In order to gain access to the rear crankshaft oil seal, the gearbox, clutch and flywheel must be removed. To remove the rear oil seal, we suggest unscrewing the oil seal flange and then replacing the oil seal. For this reason, the engine intermediate plate and oil sump must also be unscrewed.
Remove the six gland flange bolts from the crankcase and remove the flange together with the gland.
Knock the gland out of the flange.
Installing the front oil seal
On removed engine
Apply grease to the lip of the seal and carefully press the seal from the inside out into the flange so that the outside of the seal is flush.
Carefully slide the flange with gasket over the crankshaft onto the cylinder block and center it well. Tighten the bolts evenly around the circle to a torque of 10 Nm.
On installed engine
For the front crankshaft oil seal, you can purchase a special tool for pressing it in. This device is a piece of pipe that is put on the outside of the stuffing box. After that, using the crankshaft pulley bolt, the oil seal can be pressed into the crankcase housing. Thoroughly lubricate the inside and outside of the oil seal and fit the oil seal to the crankcase. Now carefully tighten the bolt while pressing the oil seal.
Installing the rear oil seal
Apply grease to the face of the oil seal and carefully press it into the flange so that the outer surface of the oil seal is flush.
Carefully slide the flange with gasket over the crankshaft onto the cylinder block and center it well. Tighten the bolts evenly around the circle to a torque of 10 Nm.
