To remove the intermediate shaft, the engine must be removed from the vehicle. The intermediate shaft is located at the front of the engine. To be able to remove the intermediate shaft, it is necessary to dismantle the injection pump and all parts of the timing mechanism drive; the cylinder head can remain in place.
The O-ring flange has a bottom return port and must be installed with this in mind. The flange determines the axial clearance of the shaft and must be replaced if the axial clearance is greater than 0.25 mm (worn contact surface). Axial clearance can be determined using an indicator. To do this, install the indicator and shake the shaft back and forth. The O-ring seals the flange on the motor side. If the flange has been unscrewed, then the O-ring located on the inside of the flange should be replaced.
