Attention! On a hot engine, the cooling system is under pressure. Never immediately open the expansion tank cap without first relieving the pressure by gradually unscrewing the expansion tank cap.
The circulation of the coolant in the system occurs using a centrifugal pump.
Electric fan (or fans on the VR6 engine) has a plastic impeller mounted on the motor shaft. The fan is turned on and off by a two-position temperature switch located on the left side of the radiator. In the first position, the temperature switch turns on the fan at a coolant temperature between 92 and 97°C, and in the second position, at a temperature between 99 and 105°C. If the coolant temperature drops, the temperature switch turns on in the opposite direction. When the coolant temperature is between 91 and 98°C, the temperature switch operating in the second position turns off the cooling fan, and in the first position the fan turns off between 84 and 91°C. The switching temperature of the temperature switch is the same on both motors.
The expansion tank is also part of the engine cooling system.
