Maintenance of the ignition distributor is carried out in the following order:
- unfasten the clamps of the ignition distributor cover, disconnect the cable «masses» and remove the cover of the ignition distributor together with the HV wires;
- replace the ignition distributor slider if its contacts are worn out. Never grind or file brass contacts;
- when replacing the ignition distributor runner, use only the prescribed runner (only for 2.0 liter engine). The slider is labeled R1;
- under the ignition distributor slider is a dust washer. It can also be removed;
- when installing the washer and the ignition distributor slider, pay attention to the locking spouts;
- if there are small black dashes on the inside of the distributor cap, then this indicates the formation of spark discharges. They can be carefully scraped off with a knife. The scraped surface should be covered with nail polish if the cover cannot be replaced;
- disconnect all HV wires from the ignition distributor, clean and check the places of their connection and the ends of the HV wires.
Keep HV wires clean. Remove moisture to ensure good electrical current to the ignition system. HV wires should not be cut to correct bad contacts, but should always be replaced. A new HV wire must only be ordered in accordance with the spare part number for the respective motor.
