VR6 engine
The lubrication system is combined: under pressure, due to the operation of the oil pump and splashing.

The oil pump is gear, located in the lower part of the crankcase and is driven from the intermediate shaft of the engine using the intermediate shaft gear 7 (pic. 165) and drive gear 5 of the shaft 6 of the pump drive.
The oil cooler, to which the cooling system hoses are connected, is located on the side of the cylinder block.
The oil filter on the VR6 engine is collapsible and consists of a filter housing, inside of which there is a removable filter element. When changing oil, only 5.5 liters of engine oil are poured into the engine, of which 5.0 liters of oil is in the engine and approximately 0.5 liters in the oil filter. When changing the oil, keep this in mind, especially if the filter itself is not replaced.
Oil from the sump is pumped by a pump into the oil filter, from which it is fed into the main line located in the cylinder block, from where the oil is discharged through transverse channels to the crankshaft and camshaft bearings and further to other lubrication points.
In the cylinder block there is a valve for draining oil and jets for lubricating the crank mechanism. These are the only parts of the engine lubrication system that can only be replaced by removing the engine from the vehicle. All other parts of the lubrication system can be replaced with the engine installed.
2 liter engine
The engine is also lubricated by pressurized oil.

The oil pump is also geared, located in the lower part of the crankcase and is driven from the intermediate shaft of the engine using the intermediate shaft gear and gear 14 (pic. 166) pump drive shaft.
A liquid-cooled oil cooler is installed between the base 10 of the oil filter and the oil filter 13. When changing the oil, 4.7 liters of engine oil are poured into the engine, of which 4.2 liters of oil is in the engine and 0.5 liters in the oil filter.
