A five-speed manual gearbox, type 006, is fitted to all Sharan models regardless of engine type. However, there are differences in gear ratios that are not the same on different engines.
The gearbox is combined with the differential and final drive and is placed with them in the same housing. Like other Volkswagen models, the gearbox is shifted using a cable. The cable transmits the movement of the lever to the shift fork shaft. All gears are synchronized, with the first three gears being double synchronized for improved low gear shifting. Gearbox and drive train repairs require special tools and experience and should only be repaired by a workshop. Therefore, there is no description of how to repair the gearbox in this manual.
