The engine is four-cylinder, located transversely. The car is available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. As of 2011, about 700 thousand cars were produced. The Euro NCAP European Committee awarded the Tiguan a five-star rating. There are two generations of this car.
Tiguan's main competitors are cars of other brands - BMW X3, Honda CR-V, Jeep Cherokee, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 3008, Renault Duster, Skoda Karoq, Suzuki Vitara and Toyota RAV4.
Tiguan I (2007—2015)
The first generation of the compact crossover appeared five years after the release of the Tuareg SUV. The design of the Tiguan is quite simple, and the body is small - 4.43 meters long and 1.81 meters wide. The interior also looks quite simple and conservative, but it is made with high quality and functionally, all the details are well adjusted. The seat and driver's seat have many adjustments for your convenience. The rear seat for passengers has the ability to move back and forth.
The engine range is represented by four 1.4-liter petrol engines (122 hp), 1.4 l (150 hp), 2.0 l (170 hp) and 2.0 l (200 hp), as well as two 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engines (140 hp) and 2.0 l (170 hp). There are four gearbox options - a 6-speed manual transmission, a 6-speed automatic transmission and two robotic DSG 6 and 7-speed. In the all-wheel drive version, the rear wheels are connected automatically through the Haldex coupling.
In 2011, a facelift was made. The headlights have been made more angular, the radiator grille has become closer in style to VW cars Passat and Golf, as well as a slightly redesigned interior.
Tiguan II (2015—present)
On September 15, 2015, the second generation of the Tiguan crossover was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It is built on the Volkswagen Group MQB platform, which is used in most Volkswagen models. The car has become even larger: +61 mm in length and +30 mm in width, but has become 43 mm lower. Also in 2016, lengthened seven-seater vehicles with a 110 mm longer wheelbase appeared called the Tiguan XL. In the same year, the car was recognized as the safest compact crossover in the world.
Four petrol engine options: two 1.4L (125 and 150 hp) and two 2.0 l (180 and 220 hp). There are also four types of diesel engines, all with a volume of 2.0 liters and power from 115 to 220 hp. There are two transmission options - a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed robotic DSG. In the Russian assembly, a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission can also be installed. The rear-wheel drive is carried out in the same way as in the previous generation.
