Checking the need for laying an additional ground wire in the car

Check if the ground wire is installed on the front passenger airbag housing. Front passenger airbag with ground wire -1- has a three-wire wiring harness -2-, while additional wire -3- is secured to stud -4-. The front passenger airbag without ground wire -5- has a two-wire wiring harness -6-, there is no additional wire on the stud -7-.



When installing the front passenger airbag without a ground wire, lay an additional ground wire in the vehicle.

Instructions: For further work, use the wire (wire section 1 mm, length 600 mm) from wiring harness repair kit -VAS 1978- or wiring harness repair kit -VAS 1978A-.

Remove the right B-pillar upper trim from the mountings. Remove the right B-pillar lower trim. Remove the A-pillar lower trim on the passenger side. Attach the end of the ground wire with the screw -1- to the right side of the front passenger airbag. Route the ground wire properly to the right side of the front passenger's footwell.

Instruction: If necessary, lengthen earth wire using wiring harness repair kit -VAS1976- or wiring harness repair kit -MS 1976A-.

Secure other end of earth wire with earth bolt -2-.

Turn on the ignition. Connect the negative terminal to the battery.

Removal and installation of a lateral pillow of safety of the driver/passenger

Instructions: The following describes the removal and installation work on the left side of the car. Removal and installation on the right side is carried out in the same way:

Position seat repair bracket -VAS 6136- on stand -VAS 6095-. Remove the front seat. Attach seat to bracket -VA3 6136-. Remove the front seat belt buckle. Remove lining from tunnel side.
