Removal and installation of a spherical support

Loosen the hub bolt. Remove wheel. Remove nuts -arrows-. Slightly pull the drive shaft out of the wheel hub. Remove the ball joint from the triangular link, while tilting the steering knuckle outward. Bend the triangular lever down as far as necessary.



Install the ball joint extractor-3287 A- as shown in the figure and press out the ball joint.

Instruction: Position engine and gearbox jack -VAG 1383 A- or similar from below (to prevent accidents caused by a heavy puller falling while the ball joint is being pressed out). To protect the threads, leave the ball joint nut threaded onto the top few threads of the pin.

Installation

Remove drive shaft from wheel hub. Insert the ball joint pin into the steering knuckle hole. Install a new self-locking nut while holding the ball joint pin against turning with a torx socket wrench -T40-. Insert the drive shaft into the wheel hub. Tighten nuts -arrows-.

Instructions: Check the boot for damage and creases.

Install the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts. Tighten the hub bolt.

Instructions: The car must not stand on wheels, otherwise the wheel bearings will be damaged.

Tightening torques

Ball joint to triangular lever. Use only new nuts	60 Nm
Ball joint to steering knuckle, Use only new nuts	60 Nm
Drive shaft to hub. Use only new bolt	70 Nm and tighten by 90°
