The engine code and engine number can be found on a sticker -arrow- affixed to the timing cover. The engine code is additionally indicated on the vehicle identification plate and on the cylinder block above the gearbox. The engine number consists of a maximum of nine characters (alphanumeric). First part (maximum 3 letters) represents "engine code", and the second part (six-digit) "serial number".
After the production of more than 999,999 engines with the same letter designation, the first of the six positions of the numbers is replaced by a letter. Vehicles for some countries do not have a manufacturer's plate.
