Characteristics of three-phase generators
Depending on the engine version, various types of three-phase generators are installed.
In vehicles with 6-cyl. gasoline engine and TDI engine, the three-phase generator has the following characteristics.
The generator drive is arranged using a V-ribbed belt.
The voltage regulator cannot be replaced separately. In case of failure, the generator assembly must be replaced.
The generator is cooled through the engine cooling circuit.
Models since 2005 release
In vehicles with 8-cyl. and 12-cyl. injection engine generator has the following characteristics.
The generator drive is arranged using a V-ribbed belt.
The voltage regulator cannot be replaced separately. In case of failure, the generator assembly must be replaced.
The generator is cooled through the engine cooling circuit.
ATTENTION: It is forbidden to unscrew the screw connections between the generator and the generator bracket. In case of failure, the generator and the generator bracket are removed and installed as an assembly, if repair is not possible, they are also replaced as an assembly.
The generator shaft is driven through an elastic coupling, which is connected to the freewheel pulley through a gear clutch. A bushing enters the flexible coupling from the engine.
In case of failure, the voltage regulator can be replaced separately.
In vehicles with 10-cyl. TDI engine three-phase alternator has the following characteristics.
The generator shaft is driven through a clutch, which is connected from the generator to the freewheel pulley by a screw connection. A sleeve enters the clutch from the engine. This bushing is connected to the gear in the engine control via a shaft.
The generator is cooled through the engine cooling circuit.
The voltage regulator cannot be replaced separately. In case of failure, the generator assembly must be replaced.
