Warning and information messages
When a malfunction occurs in the vehicle, the corresponding icons appear on the display with warning or information messages.
When the ignition is turned on or while driving, a number of functions, systems and devices of the car are monitored. Failures in the operation of nodes and systems are shown on the display by red or yellow icons and are additionally accompanied by text messages and a sound signal.
Information messages
Along with warning messages about failures, informational messages about certain processes or calls for certain actions are displayed.
Priority Warnings (red)
In case of serious malfunctions, the icon flashes or lights up and three warning signals sound. Red pictograms signal danger. Stop and turn off the engine. Needs inspection and repair. We need qualified help.
If several critical faults occur, the icons appear one after the other for two seconds each. The icons flash until the problem is corrected.
When a high priority warning is on the display, no menus are shown on the display.
Brake system
The pictogram flashes when the level of brake fluid in the reservoir is too low or when there is a malfunction in the brake system.
When the icon starts to glow (three additional warning tones sound), stop the car.
If prompted, check the brake fluid level.
When the ABS fails, the ABS warning light comes on along with the brake system icon.
ATTENTION: If the brake system icon does not go out or appears while driving, this means that either the level of brake fluid in the reservoir is too low, or there is a malfunction in the brake system. Stop and don't move on. Qualified help is needed.
WARNING: If the brake system warning icon appears and the ABS warning light comes on at the same time, the ABS may be malfunctioning. In this case, the rear wheels during braking can be blocked relatively early. Under certain circumstances, this can cause the vehicle to skid. Proceed carefully to the nearest repair shop for troubleshooting.
Coolant level/temperature
The icon appears either when the coolant level is too low or too high.
When a malfunction occurs:
- the pictogram does not go out after a few seconds after the ignition is turned on;
- the icon lights up or flashes while driving. At the same time, three warning signals sound.
It is possible that the coolant level is too low or the coolant temperature is too high.
The coolant level is too low.
If the level is normal, the fan may be defective. Check fan fuse and replace if necessary.
If the warning light comes on again after a short drive, you must not continue driving and turn off the engine.
Contact a Volkswagen Service Partner or Specialist Workshop.
WARNING: If it is impossible to drive further due to a malfunction, park the vehicle at a safe distance from the traffic flow, turn off the engine and turn on the hazard warning lights.
WARNING: Never open the engine compartment hood when you see steam or coolant coming out of the engine compartment. Wait until no more steam or coolant flows out.
Engine oil pressure
The pictogram indicates low oil pressure in the engine.
If the warning pictogram flashes, although the engine oil level is normal, you must not continue driving. The engine must also not be idling. Qualified help is needed.
NOTE: The oil pressure pictogram is by no means an oil level gauge. Therefore, regularly, preferably at each refueling, check the engine oil level.
Minor Warnings (yellow)
In case of not so significant violations in the operation of the car, the corresponding icon appears and one warning signal sounds. Perform the necessary checks as soon as possible.
If several minor faults occur, the icons appear one after the other for two seconds each. After some time, the message disappears, and an icon remains on the edge of the screen as a reminder to check.
Minor alerts only appear when there are no major alerts.
