Removal and installation of the thermostat

The thermostat is located in a housing mounted on the water pump flange on the left side of the engine compartment.

Removing

Clamp both water hoses connected to the thermostat housing or drain the coolant into a vessel.

Raise the rear of the car.

Unscrew the 2 bolts from the thermostat housing with a wrench.

Pull the housing down and remove the thermostat.

Installation

Before installation, if required, check the thermostat.

Insert the thermostat so that the upper spring is in the housing.

Insert the housing flange with a new gasket, tighten both fastening bolts to 7 Nm.

Fill with coolant.

After a test drive, check the thermostat housing gasket for leaks.
