Carburetor / fuel injection device

The engine power system includes the fuel tank, fuel hoses, fuel filter, fuel pump, and carburetor or fuel injection device with an air filter. The fuel tank is located behind the front axle. The fuel reserve is displayed to the driver on the fuel gauge on the dashboard. The fuel tank has a ventilation system.

44kw VW BUS boxer water-cooled engine (60 hp) has a 34 PICT carburetor and a 57 kW engine (78 hp) equipped with a downdraft carburetor with Solex-Pierburg type 2E3 chambers. On engines with a power of 66-82 kW (90-112 hp) fuel injection devices are installed, which practically do not require maintenance during operation.

Attention: Since March 87, cars with 78 hp engines have been produced. (engine index DG), having additional equipment, such as power steering, air conditioning or automatic transmission, on which a 2E 4 carburetor is installed instead of a 2E 3 carburetor. The main difference is that the 2E 4 carburetor has an electronically controlled idle speed stabilization mode.
